SELF-TYING IN MOVEMENT I & II - by Pauline Massimo (1,45 hours each part)

Buying tickets for this class allows you to access the class recording of this class offered in the past.

About this class:

As part of 2 online classes, Pauline will introduce tools and framework for self-tying in movement. Getting influences from different types of dances and movements applied on Shibari for self-tying. We will use movement research and ropes as a tool for self-expression and guidance.

In both classes, Pauline will share movement exercises to warm the body and understands its own movement ranges.

Then they will show more exercises with rope and movement for different levels of difficulty.

Part I

On this class, Pauliane will focus on the movement and self-tying on the ground, playing with the force of gravity closer to the floor and with the delicate line of imbalance while in different positions self tying while in movement.

Part II

On this class, the focus of the class will be on self-tying on air with movements. This class will be a bit more advanced but most of the exercises can be adapted depending of the students level and skills, however the risks are higher and it should be practiced with an experienced spotter.

This class is for mixed levels, meaning there will be some requisites to be aware of before attending this class, but generally, all levels are welcome as well many topics shown could be applied and adapted to different levels of experience and interests. Pauline will advise during the class, which are the things that could be harder or more complicated for more beginners, and they will make sure that some complex topics and exercises will be covered to more advanced self-tying folks.

What do you need to know before this class:

• Ideally, you should have attended Pauline Massimo Total Beginners Workshop (online) and Frictions Study (online) to follow this class or have the experience and equivalent knowledge of the classes mentioned.

-Understanding of single and double columns, non-collapsible knot, basic to complex frictions, knowledge about possible injuries from being tied, nerve compression and blood circulation issues, risk profile and so on.

• You will need your own ropes and safety cutting tool. The number of ropes can vary for this class, we could approximately count 3-4 pieces minimum, ideally 6-8 pieces, but it depends on how many layers you tie on usually.

About Pauline:

Pauline Massimo (no pronouns/they), with roots in Brazil and feet in Barcelona, co-founder of Espacio Nos and Learn Shibari.

They have been very intense and proactively involved in Shibari for a decade, exercising multiple roles as a visual artist, performer, instructor, organizer, learner, researcher, mentor, and among other things, nationally and internationally. Their way of feeling, experiencing, and exposing Shibari, starts from its interdisciplinary and multifaceted base where they explore the infinite relationships with other disciplines and ways of coexisting in the world with a strong tie to radical politics, social constructions, neurodivergence, etc.

They have vast experience giving workshops, classes, lectures, and courses on Shibari and interdisciplinary practices contributing from their own perspective as a rigger, model, and selftier in well-known rope spaces in Europe such as in England, Mexico, Germany, Czech Republic, France, Spain, Costa Rica, Martinique, Colombia, Portugal, The Netherlands, as well as in Brazil, Turkey, etc.

They opt for a more progressive way of studying and learning, choosing precision and detail in their classes. They work from an approach where it takes the student's existing knowledge as a starting point and helps them to realistically approach their goals, always keeping their feet on the ground with conscious practice.

When Pauline is talking about Shibari and teaching, always has in their mind the involvement of both roles with their own complexities and contributing inputs. Both the rigger and model coexist independently and need attention separately, but also as a team working together in having a productive, positive, and intimate journey.

As an agender person, they have no pronouns or gender reference but do not mind having neutral terms used toward them (They/them, for example).
