MADRID: Intensive Kinbaku Kasumi Hourai & Asami Hime

Kasumi Hourai and Asami Hime offer us three intensive days to immerse ourselves in their refined style of Kinbaku, Japanese culture and aesthetics.

Kasumi Hourai is Japan's leading female Kinbakushi. At the age of 18, she became a dominatrix in SM clubs, before beginning to take lessons from the legendary Akechi Denki at the age of 20. Kasumi-san has been a professional in the business for 25 years, receiving training from Akira Naka, and has taught in Japan, Europe and America.

Kasumi's wabi-sabi concept, style and variations are constantly evolving and are strongly influenced by her upbringing by her father, a professional Ikebana/Kadō (flower arranging) and sadō/chadō (tea ceremony) practitioner, and her mother, who also understood the art of refined kimono.

She brings a refined and evocative aesthetic vision, combining elements of Japanese culture with Kinbaku such as Kyokuero (eroticism) and Ku (suffering).

AGENDA:

Topic: Kimono, tea ceremony and etiquette: Friday, 4 September 2026 / 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.

-Kasumi offers this theoretical workshop and ceremony shared with participants.

There will be five places available to participate with Kasumi in a tea ceremony performed by her, and three places to participate dressed in yukata by Kasumi. The remaining places will be for observing and listening.

Kasumi's wabi-sabi concept, her style and its variations are constantly evolving and are strongly influenced by her upbringing by her father, a professional in Ikebana/Kadō (flower arranging) and sadō/chadō (tea ceremony) by her mother, who also understood the art of refined kimono. She brings a refined and evocative aesthetic vision, combining elements of Japanese culture with Kinbaku such as Kyokuero (eroticism) and Ku (suffering).

This theoretical workshop will be of great interest to those who want to deepen their knowledge of traditional Japanese culture, better understand its manners, philosophy of aesthetics, the correct use of the kimono, and the tea ceremony and Ikebana. Although this workshop does not focus on Shibari, it will still have a persistent presence as all these cultural and philosophical elements are part of Kasumi's life and she herself considers them to be part of her way of practising Kinbaku.

This is a unique opportunity to learn from a great teacher who has a wealth of experience and family tradition in all these traditional concepts and practices.

Topic: ‘Delicate and detailed tying techniques (on the floor and suspended) and the fusion of Japanese aesthetics with classic Kinbaku’: Saturday 5th and Sunday 6th September 2026 / 10:00 to 17:00 (with a break for lunch)

This will be his first time teaching in Madrid. The event begins with an introduction to traditional Japanese Kinbaku techniques and the classical philosophy of Kinbaku. Rather than focusing solely on suspension, he will also demonstrate variations of ropes on the floor, with different purposes, to explore both the fun and challenges of Kinbaku.

The natural properties of rope, human body movement, and physical reflexes will be used to create different experiences, including:

1) Ropes on the floor as play.

2) Ropes on the floor as a form of pressure or ‘torment’.

3) Ropes on the floor as healing.

4) Ropes on the floor as communication between partners.

Of course, suspensions will also be practised. Her personal approach is not to start with extremely difficult positions or use many ropes. Instead, she prefers to start with a position that feels manageable and then gradually add ropes or adjust the binding to increase the intensity according to the model's wishes: their “preferred suffering”. She also wants to share how the Japanese aesthetic of subtle beauty can be fused with Kinbaku, and allow participants to experience it first-hand.

Not only will TK (Takatekote) ties be included, but also other styles for the upper body harness.

Throughout the intensive: TK Kasumi style, and at the end of the workshop, everyone will come together to tie themselves with the theme of Ikebana (Japanese flower arrangement), followed by a photo session to immortalise this precious moment together.

Shibari Soirée: Saturday, 5 September 2026 / 8:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m.

On this special night, we offer two Shibari performances. There will be an opening performance, followed by a performance by Kasumi Hourai and model Asami Hime, with a theme yet to be confirmed.

LANGUAGE:

The workshop will be conducted in Japanese by Kasumi and will be simultaneously interpreted into English (assistance in Spanish will be available if necessary).

IDIOMA:

El taller será impartido en japonés por Kasumi y contará con interpretación simultánea al inglés (se ofrecerá asistencia en español si fuera necesario).

REQUIREMENTS:

All participants attend in pairs (role swapping is not permitted during the workshop).

Those who tie must have a thorough understanding and proficiency in tying single and double column ties, as well as simple and complex friction knots. Knowing how to tie complex harnesses suitable for suspension and knowing how to tie some type of Takate Kote is necessary, in addition to knowing how to tie other harnesses on the body, both on the torso and on the legs/hips. Knowing how to execute static suspension lines and secure bamboo closures fluently and safely.

Models must have minimal experience being tied, as well as know how to communicate with the person tying them, and identify differences in blood circulation and nerve compression should they occur. They must also know and understand enough about their body and what things can go better or worse.

All roles must have a sufficiently good understanding of anatomy and the risks that Shibari can entail, regarding circulation and nerve compression. Couples should have a minimum of experience tying together before attending the intensive course, as well as knowing how to negotiate and communicate their needs and reach a consensus.

If you have any doubts about your level or the requirements, please consult us before booking. If we see that you do not firmly meet the requirements, you will not be able to attend the workshop.

WHAT TO BRING:

A minimum of 6-8 jute (or hemp) ropes, ideally 6 mm in diameter and with an average length of 7-8 metres.
