What you will learn:
Pauline will guide students through their process of entering full suspensions. As Shibari is a dangerous practice that is done poorly, with little knowledge and little care from both parties, it can get even more dangerous with full suspensions as we add more the element of gravity on this play, a small mistake can be terrifying.
In this introductory workshop, Pauline firstly will go throw several safety aspects needed to take into account while starting into full suspensions, then they will show first exercises to work on before starting to suspend someone or oneself, and lastly, they will show two examples of suspensions to start off and to progressively dip into creating beautiful shapes, leaving room for creativity and a steady base for riggers suspending.
Requisites:
• This class is intended for all levels above total beginners to play and apply accordingly to each person's skills and interests. However, students who wish to practice the partial exercises should be able to know well and work with uplines and tie their harnesses well, as safe as possible and comfortably on their models. And models should have a minimum experience being tied up as well be able to identify and communicate signs related to nerve injury and other types of injuries/negative feelings to their riggers and know a good minimum of their limits and boundaries.
***If you don't have that base yet, please check our previous online classes that teach those basis ("flow and floor work" and "introduction to uplines").
• You will need your own ropes and safety cutting tool.
• You might need at minimum 4 natural ropes (jute or hemp) for practising the most basic exercises, and up to as many as you need for more complex exercises. Ideally 6-8 pieces of rope.
About Pauline Massimo:
Pauline Massimo (no pronouns/they), with roots in Brazil and feet in Barcelona, founder of Espacio Nos and Learn Shibari.
They have been very intense and proactively involved in Shibari for more than 14 years, exercising multiple roles as a visual artist, performer, instructor, organizer, learner, researcher, mentor, and among other things, nationally and internationally. Their way of feeling, experiencing, and exposing Shibari, starts from its interdisciplinary and multifaceted base where they explore the infinite relationships with other disciplines and ways of coexisting in the world with a strong tie to radical politics, social constructions, neurodivergence, etc.
They have vast experience giving workshops, classes, lectures, and courses on Shibari and interdisciplinary practices contributing from their own perspective as a rigger, model, and selftier in well-known rope spaces in Europe such as in England, Mexico, Germany, Czech Republic, France, Spain, Costa Rica, Martinique, Colombia, Portugal, The Netherlands, as well as in Brazil, Turkey, etc.
They opt for a more progressive way of studying and learning, choosing precision and detail in their classes. They work from an approach where it takes the student's existing knowledge as a starting point and helps them to realistically approach their goals, always keeping their feet on the ground with conscious practice.
When Pauline is talking about Shibari and teaching, always has in their mind the involvement of both roles with their own complexities and contributing inputs. Both the rigger and model coexist independently and need attention separately, but also as a team working together in having a productive, positive, and intimate journey.
As an agender person, they have no pronouns or gender reference but do not mind having neutral terms used toward them (They/them, for example).
