EVENT DETAILS

Intensive 2 days workshop

City of Kinbaku by George Barkas and Addie Tahl (Vancounver, Canada).

Bio:

Barkas and Addie are Vancouver-based rope educators who teach and perform worldwide. Their style is characterized by a focus on the rope scene's process, interaction, and emotion. Together they run TheSpace2, Vancouver’s first dedicated rope space. Barkas is a bondage artist and writer. They have developed the “Interview Metaphor” as a way of understanding rope bondage and placing focus on the person in ropes, “Ranboo” which is a highly dynamic and stormy way of doing and thinking Kinbaku, as well as the “City of Kinbaku”, a poetics of Kinbaku. Addie is a switch and self-suspension enthusiast. She organizes regular workshops on dynamic self-suspension and versatile education both, for beginners and technically advanced. When co-teaching she focuses on bottoming information and discourse.

Event details:

A poetic journey to Barkas’ metaphorical city of Kinbaku. Barkas and Addie are picking up the participants and guide them through the many meanings rope can be filled with. We discuss communication via ropes, movement with ropes, and space in the context of ropes. This journey includes very simple techniques and more elaborate ones alike. Participants will get a deep insight into the philosophy and technique of Barkas’s and Addie’s work. We encourage all levels to participate and not to be afraid of challenges.

This class is for mixed levels as long as requisites apply, the main idea is to work with a less common framework for this class which we will fixate less on patterns and sequences, but more on the concept and personal growth of each participant. Therefore, they will not focus on specific tying patterns details but more on deepening in each couple's journey guided by Barkas and Addie, taking as a base their style essence and framework to help participants build their own way. This workshop is ideal for people who identify as rope bottom/rope models, riggers, and switchers who want to share this journey.
