EVENT DETAILS
BARCELONA: Intensive Kinbaku Kasumi Hourai & Asami Hime
Kasumi Hourai and model Asami Hime return to Barcelona to offer us two more advanced intensive days and immerse us in their refined style of Kinbaku, Japanese culture and aesthetics.
Kasumi Hourai is Japan's leading female Kinbakushi. At the age of 18, she became a dominatrix in SM clubs before beginning to take lessons from the legendary Akechi Denki at the age of 20. Kasumi-san has been a professional in the business for 25 years, receiving training from Akira Naka, and has taught in Japan, Europe, and America.
Kasumi's wabi-sabi concept, style and variations are constantly evolving and are strongly influenced by her upbringing by her father, a professional Ikebana/Kadō (flower arranging) and sadō/chadō (tea ceremony) practitioner, and her mother, who also understood the art of refined kimono.
She brings a refined and evocative aesthetic vision, combining elements of Japanese culture with Kinbaku such as Kyokuero (eroticism) and Ku (suffering).
AGENDA:
Topic: ‘Reducing the Risk of Accidents in Kinbaku and Enjoyable Rope Torture, Variations Beyond TK, and How Small Adjustments Create More Beauty’: Saturday 12th and Sunday 13th September 2026 / 10:00 to 17:00 (with a break for lunch)
At the last workshop in Barcelona, she explained the beauty of asymmetry and its similarity to Ikebana. This time, she will revisit this topic, but her main goal in 2026 is research on reducing accidents in Kinbaku.
She wants to share her knowledge with both those who tie and the model, including:
1) What to pay attention to.
2) What knowledge to learn.
3) What to do during and outside of tying to stay safe.
In terms of technique, last time the main focus was TK. This time, she will focus half on TK and half on other upper body ties. Suspensions will be included in the workshop. She will also show how small changes in the tying (not only in the rope, but also with the presence of the model) can make the image safer and more beautiful.
Throughout the intensive: Kasumi-style TK workshop and at the end of the workshop everyone will come together with the theme of Ikebana, followed by a photo session to immortalise this precious moment together.
Shibari Soirée: Saturday, 12 September 2026 / 8:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m.
On this special night, we will offer two Shibari performances. There will be an opening performance, followed by a performance by Kasumi Hourai and her model, with a theme yet to be confirmed.
LANGUAGE:
The workshop will be taught in Japanese by Kasumi and will be simultaneously interpreted into English (assistance in Spanish available if necessary).
REQUIREMENTS:
All participants attend in pairs (no role swapping is allowed during the workshop).
Those who tie must have a deep understanding and fluency in tying single and double column ties, simple and complex friction knots. Knowing how to tie complex harnesses suitable for suspension and knowing how to tie some type of Takate Kote is necessary, in addition to knowing how to tie other harnesses on the body, both on the torso and on the legs/hips. Knowing how to execute static suspension lines and secure bamboo closures fluently and safely.
Models must have minimum experience being tied, as well as know how to communicate with the person tying them, and identify differences in blood circulation and nerve compression should they occur, know and understand enough about their body and what things can go better or worse.
All roles must have a sufficiently good understanding of anatomy and the risks that Shibari can entail, regarding circulation and nerve compression. Couples should have a minimum of experience tying together before attending the intensive course, as well as knowing how to negotiate and communicate their needs and reach a consensus.
